Resource Development
To maximize traditional resources, identify and develop non-traditional resources,
disseminate information about available resources.
Public and Professional Awareness/Education
To provide information that will change perceptions and attitudes about developmental
disabilities within the general public.
Advocacy
To use networking, information sharing and other effective communication tools to
educate and empower individuals and families so they can advocate effectively.
Quality Provision of Services and Supports
Insure quality provision of services/supports by identifying problems and develop solutions.
Family Support
Advocate for the development of family support options that provide families choices for obtaining
the resources and services that can enable them to maintain a functioning family system and that
can nurture and provide for the needs of all family members including the family member with a disability.
Advisory
In accordance with RSMO 633.045, the Metropolitan Council on Developmental Disabilities will serve
as the Region IV Advisory Council to the Department of Mental Health, Division of Mental Retardation/
Developmental Disabilities/ Kansas City Regional Center.
