|
| What Is Its Mission? |
MCDD's Mission:
- Acts as a system advocate and as a liaison between all the services for persons with developmental disabilities and their families living in the
following counties: Bates, Cass, Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Platte and Ray. MCDD is a vehicle that involves individuals and their families in
impacting change in their services/support system.
- MCDD is an information clearinghouse for many organizations serving individuals and their families. Through MCDD organizations obtain information
as to what is occurring on the federal, state and local level that could or will impact their agency.
- MCDD verifies service availability and identifies services and supports needed.
- MCDD conducts outreach programs educating people whose lives have been untouched by disabilities and eliciting their support for the services that
provide support for persons with disabilities.
- Serves as the "grassroots" advisory council to the Kansas City Regional Center.
- Administers the Family Support (STIPEND/LOAN) Program.
- Develops and distributes the Region IV Service Fact Sheet Series.
Yet, the most important role MCDD has is the work done on behalf of the citizens of this region and their families.
Listening to families' needs, wants and, most importantly, their feelings assisting them in sharing these with policy makers.
Families utilize MCDD as an information and referral center to direct them to a service, support or a person that will
effectively help them. MCDD also serves as an informational resource as to what is occurring within the system that will
affect them in a positive or negative way. Families utilize the Council as their individual or collective voice.
