MC+ for Kids, part of the federal Children's Health Insurance Program, is a health insurance program for low income families who do not
have access to affordable health insurance. Eligible children will be enrolled through MC+ for Kids, Missouri's Health insurance program for
uninsured children. They will be able to choose coverage through a managed care plan, which provides the service. This program will provide
health coverage to approximately 90,000 uninsured children.
MC+ for Kids will:
- Expand the availability of affordable health insurance for children;
- Provide children with a primary care provider - someone to coordinate all aspects of their health care and preventive services; and
- Increase efficient delivery of health care services and control costs.
Children will receive all medically necessary services from their health plan, including primary, acute and preventive care; physical, occupational
and speech therapy; dental; home and community based services such as nursing and personal care; medical equipment and supplies; pharmacy benefits;
vision care; lab and x-ray; and behavioral services such as outpatient counseling and inpatient psychiatric treatment.
Uninsured children with gross family incomes up to 330% of poverty level, i.e. children in a family of three earning less than $40,950 per year would be eligible.
Based on income, some participants will be required to pay monthly premiums and co-payments for professional services and prescriptions:
- Families earning up to 185% of the poverty level will not be required to pay co-payments or premium;
- Families earning between 186% and 225% will pay $5 co-payments for professional services; and
- Families earning between 226% and 300% of poverty will be required to pay 65% of monthly premiums and co-payments of $10 for professional services and $5 for prescriptions.
